Restrictive Eating, Autism & the School Environment

Bwyta Cyfyngol, Awtistiaeth ac Amgylchedd yr Ysgol

Mae llawer o blant a phobl ifanc awtistig yn profi bwyta cyfyngol sy’n gysylltiedig â phryder, gwahaniaethau synhwyraidd ac angen rhagweladwyedd. Gall hyn gael effaith sylweddol ar eu profiad dyddiol yn yr ysgol.

Mae’r sesiwn ar-lein ymarferol, tosturiol hon yn archwilio sut y gall amgylcheddau a threfniadau ysgol naill ai leihau neu gynyddu trallod ynghylch bwyta a sut y gall addasiadau bach, realistig wneud gwahaniaeth ystyrlon.

Ar gyfer pwy mae?

Rhieni, gofalwyr, staff ysgol a gweithwyr proffesiynol ADY.

📘 Beth fydd y sesiwn yn ei gwmpasu

Sut y gall bwyta cyfyngol edrych (gan gynnwys proffiliau a gaiff eu diagnosio weithiau fel ARFID)
Cysylltiadau rhwng awtistiaeth, gwahaniaethau prosesu synhwyraidd a bwyta
Sut y gall amgylcheddau ysgol ac amser cinio effeithio ar bryder a bwyta
Addasiadau ymarferol y gall ysgolion eu gwneud i gefnogi

Restrictive Eating, Autism & the School Environment

Many autistic children and young people experience restrictive eating linked to anxiety, sensory differences and a need for predictability. This can have a significant impact on their day‑to‑day experience in school.

This practical, compassionate online session explores how school environments and routines can either reduce or increase distress around eating and how small, realistic adjustments can make a meaningful difference.

Who is it for?

Parents, carers, school staff and ALN professionals.

📘 What the session will cover

What restrictive eating can look like (including profiles sometimes diagnosed as ARFID)
Links between autism, sensory processing differences and eating
How school and lunchtime environments can affect anxiety and eating
Practical adjustments schools can make to better support pupils
Common well‑intentioned strategies that may unintentionally increase distress
Working collaboratively with families to support positive relationships with food

Facilitator

Sian Taylor – Clinical Specialist Dietitian, CAMHS (Aneurin Bevan University Health Board)
Founder of Wales’ first dedicated ARFID service for children (2021) and Chair of the British Dietetic Association ARFID subgroup
